University of Bor\u00e5s is an innovative academic institution in the region of west Sweden, where research is conducted in close collaboration with the business community, creative, cultural and public sector, and in line with its trademark concept of Science for the Professions. University of Bor\u00e5s is organized in three faculties, each with several departments and a Science Park. The university boasts of its flagship of \u201cSwedish School of Textiles\u201d and \u201cSmart Textiles\u201d which are leaders in its field nationally and well received internationally.<\/p>\n

The Swedish School of Textiles is one of the largest institutions for textiles in Europe, embracing ~1100 students and is active in research, innovation and education in advanced textile on Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. The related research and educational environment supports the entire textile value chain, and includes experimental practice based design, technology, and management. Some core areas include textiles and fashion \u2013 textile and fashion design, textile management and textile engineering. The school runs a number of cross-disciplinary research areas within the scope of: Smart Textiles, Digital Fashion, and Circular Textile and Fashion. The multi- and transdisciplinary textile and fashion-related research also benefits education and training in the textile and fashion sector. This has therefore become a highlighted flagship of the University of Bor\u00e5s.<\/p>\n

Over the past years, Swedish School of textiles has participated in several research and innovation, both nationally and internationally, that can truly transform the industry towards the next step for circular economy, sustainability and digitalization. Beyond its contribution as specialists in the above areas, the Swedish School of Textiles also works closely with the textile industry and other industrial partners like TEKO, MarketPlace Bor\u00e5s and incubators, and is an active member in many EU networks such as UNECE, Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), European Technology Platform, RegioTex.<\/p>\n

Smart Textiles Initiative is an integral part of Science Park Bor\u00e5s. From being a project initiated and coordinated by the Swedish School of Textiles, it has successfully developed into a leading research and innovation environment and cluster for textile, fashion and design. Smart Textiles relates well to national and regional strategies for smart specialisation and specific policy priorities for reindustrialisation and the development of a new circular economy. Since 2018 Swedish government assigned the University of Bor\u00e5s to establish a national collaboration platform for sustainable textile and fashion, called Textile & Fashion 2030. The platform promotes sustainable business models and reconciles environmental benefits with business benefits. It also hosts Circular Textile Initiative.<\/p>\n
